Title: In a better place now

Blog Entry: As some of you know a few months ago my older sister passed away leaving her husband Don and three grown children. Don was totally in love with my sister and took her death badly putting it mildly. We had to remove all the weapons from the house because we were afraid for him and those around him. This morning, Don on his 78 th birthday, passed away. He’d been in the hospital most of the time since my sister passed away in late May. He suffered several mini strokes right after my sister’s death and was suffering from dementia among other things In a way, I hesitate to say he was suffering while in the dementia state as he was in his mind, living during his time as a younger man, healthy and happy some 40 or 50 years in the past from what we could figure out from conversations we had with him. He didn’t know anyone, but happily shared stories and we listened enthralled by the living history he was sharing. We took it as a gift, one that cannot not be bought from any bookstore or movie theater. The only way to describe Don is being first and last 100% a warrior, a military man to the letter. Most of his life was spent serving our country, enduring things that we cannot even imagine and if we could, we’d have nightmares. He wanted to serve so badly that he lied about his age so he could enlist during the last two years of World War II, the Korean War, Viet Nam , and during the Bay of Pigs invasion. Being an orphan who was abandoned by his parents, he was brought up in a Catholic orphanage He didn’t have an easy life until his later years and even then it was filled with pain from the injuries that he suffered during the multiple wars that he served in. I know that he’s with my sister now and isn’t in any pain. God has taken a good warrior home to serve him, and he picked a good one. Rest in Peace Don, you will be missed.
