Weather God Mother Nature People
Posted On 02/18/2008 06:54:18 by NightWind
Tornadoes are one of those deadly marvels of God and nature that no one can predict. They strike with out any rhyme or reason, totally demolishing entire neighborhoods only to leave one house standing  virtually undamaged.

Funny Farm said she wouldn't know how to deal with a tornado as they normally deal with earthquakes in CA. I have to tell you Funny Farm, I don't think I could deal with the ground under my feet moving so my hats off to you for living and dealing with those. I've been in CA during a few of them over the years and I'd rather deal with a million tornadoes and hurricanes than 1 earthquake. We have those here too, but it's a rare thing that we even notice them thankfully. We had one on Jan 4, 2008 in fact, a 2.5 but I didn't know it until I looked it up.
No one knows how to deal with a tornado. There is simply nothing you can do except be prepared and try to stay safe. They can't predict where they are going to strike, it's all an educated guess. Almost nothing can withstand a direct hit as the amount of sheer power they contain is un-imaginable and they've never been able to "measure" the actual power of one. There are areas of the country that experience them to the point that they get careless and don't respect the raw power that they contain, unfortunately my area is one of those. All in all everyone is safe and Alabama Power has done a wonderful job of getting the electricity back on, only 3100 don't have power this morning. We had 31 reported tornadoes in the state yesterday so I'd say we were blessed that there wasn't more damage or loss of life.

I want to say thanks to everyone that prayed for all the people in my town that experienced the wrath of mother nature yesterday about 3:15pm. I didn't realize the extent of the damage until this morning when I found out the main and secondary roads are blocked going in and out of town.
Stay safe everyone I have a feeling this is going to be a really strange and dangerous weather year.
Happy Trails
NW

I agree with you, I have been thru tornados and though they are unpredictable, sometimes leaving so much damage, I think I could deal w/ those better than earthquakes. I remember the day many tornados hit TX in 97 I believe. It was pretty outside and then just all of a sudden, the sky was dark, out in the country the siren was barely heard. I ran to the neighbors, only to look onto the hill where our house was to see a tornado hovering above it, but God seemed to work a miracle but it never touched down. That was the day the pavement was torn off of streets and many died in Jarrell, TX. I pray for all of those hurt, those who lost loved ones and homes in devastating weather. God brought us a miracle, the only thing we ever had to do was fix windshields and replace roofs. I'm glad that technology is coming closer to try their best to predict severe weather and that when there is, they make sure sometimes to work hours on end getting the weather to you instead of making some people mad, not being able to watch their shows, they just leave the weather on so that anyone can get to it. They have weather radio's that have sirens incase you aren't around a tv and miss the national weather service alert, they sound the alarm on those certain radios so you can't miss it. Even have weather alerts being able to be sent to cell phones.

God Bless you and your family NW. I'm glad yall are safe after those tornados.
Take care!

You know, you would think that with all the technology that there is today that they would be able to come up with some sort of device to predict it a little closer to the target.  All I can say is God Bless You.

you and me both NW, I agree with you that you cannot perdict where or when a tornado will hit... They appear from now at times it could be sunshining and next thing you know the sky is dark and overcast. While I was in Iraq we had one come out of the clouds in Mosul I have pictures of it that I will put on my site later... It was wild...  Anyways I am glad ya'll are safe and sound and that no one got seriously hurt in your town... roll on Hangman
