Is this what we want?
Posted On 04/02/2008 08:50:13 by NightWind

I've been reading though the various postings here and else where about the proposed strike and the actions that SOME of the participating "drivers"  and I use the term drivers loosely here, have been taking and frankly it's appalling the behavior that has been demonstrated by some of them.

Some of the people striking have the right idea by talking to the media while parked in a safe place that doesn't cause any hullabaloo with the businesses and public that we have to get on OUR side in order to be heard.

Rolling road blocks, bocking truck-stop fuel pumps, roads and businesses? What the hell are they thinking? Do we need MORE bad mainstream media coverage? No we don't, we can't afford it.

What does that accomplish? Nothing but MORE hard feelings from the public and validation of the misconception of who we REALLY are.
Don't we get enough of that already? Is this how we want the public and government officials to perceive us?

Do we have to add more fuel to the to the publics main stream media generated idea of us as speed demons who are interested in doing nothing but breaking the law taking dope, that are too illiterate to get something done the RIGHT WAY?

Please give me a break.
I refuse to be represented my those that cannot conduct their actions in an adult professional manner. I'll never support violence and unprofessional action as a means to solve the current problems we are facing as an industry.

Unless we act in a professional manner, we will not be treated as such, and what's more we don't deserve it either if we act like a bunch of heathens.

We have SO much to loose by this type of behavior and as we know actions speak louder than words.

Please, for the love of God and all that's Holy, act like the professionals that we are. Don't pick up the paint brush that Barbara Walters, 60 Minutes and Dateline have already smeared us with and finish the portrait of our industry that they started.

Night wind
We have so many time agreed with each other on our staments and I tend to agree with your postings. However i will say your wrong on this one. We are fast becoming a "Politicaly Correct" society. Do you knwo what that realy means? It means politeness to all in order to not offend. It also amount to shunning and ignoring problems because there is no one there to make a statement. No one got the point and the 15 min of fame of the strike is gone. you want to make a huge statement that people will pay attention to. shut the highways down in key areas. ya your going to jail. But the media feeds on that. When they ask why you did it. expalin. you the 4 wheelers were inconvienaced one day by me. I have been inconvienaced every day by you, fuel, gas what ever. Violance, no doesnt solve anything. But you have to being will to stand in the face of any obsticle if you truly believe what you are saying. Talk is one thing sitting in a truck stop, reseting and complaining on the CB. Great! made alot of peopl feel good. Now for the next 10 years we wiull hear them complain about all who didnt park thier truck.

Some times in life you have to take drastic steps to get results. The question in all our hearts is do we have the courage to, do what it takes to stop what hurts us? Or do we stop at simple words and meaningless gestures?     Roll on allways

Oh and Professionals can cause a seen. Its not the statment that makes you a profesional its how you handle your day to day driving and life.

You are so 100% right.  To many people, truck drivers or not, react to situations based on emotion without thinking of the consequences.  As I said before, lets act rationally instead of reacting emotionally.  We have the attention of the people now, let's do something GOOD with it.  Once again, it is going to be the actions of a few will ruin this for the industry once again.  Use your heads and think first.

I AGREE WITH YOU BOTH.THE MORE BAD THAT IS SHOWN THE WORSE THEY WILL THINK OF US.
