The other night we were watching the History channel, it was a story about the building of the tallest hotel in the world in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The hotel is owned by the Jumeirah Group, formerly Jumeirah International Group) is an international luxury hotel chain and part of Dubai Holdings, which is owned by Dubai Government.
Now why would I be writing about something way over there? Because of the reason that the hotel was built. In addition to the fact, this particular area of the world is one of the oil producing countries that happen to have a gun to our heads, and the worlds too.
They have recognized that the oil isn’t going to last forever, and have started taking steps to provide other venues of income for the country when their oil reserves run out in 2010 as they seem to think it will. So what why do we care? Well because they are taking steps to try to solve a potential problem before it becomes a problem. When the crude oil is gone, it is GONE and there’s no way to produce any more once we suck it all out of the ground.
Although I do wonder how all the folks that can afford the current hotel room rates of $1000.00 to $50,000.00 per night will get there if there isn’t any oil to make fuel to fly the planes and run the other things that they’ll need. It’s just the idea that they are thinking outside the box.
I wonder what the leaders of our country have planned to replace crude oil with, or if we will even be able to afford to when it reaches that point? I don’t think that we’ll be able to compete with the other countries that buy crude oil as the monetary reserves that we have aren’t going to be a drop in the bucket by then. Not to mention we owe so much money that we might not exist as a nation then as we do now. Can you spell REPOSSESSED? Can they do that; I don’t know and really don’t want to be here if and when it happens. I guess that would give us a taste of how Iraq and Afghanistan are feeling about our troops occupying their countries.
The strategic oil reserves will be long gone and I can’t even imagine what the price of diesel, gas, heating oil will be up to by then. It’s about $110.00 per barrel, which is causing major financial strains on everyone.
Will the people of this nation along with our leaders finally decide that they have to put the brakes on all the dumb things they do simply because it’s easier to buy the oil from the OPEC countries instead of figuring out how to use the tar sand and oil shale that we have such an abundance of? Will the American public get their heads out of the sands and take charge of their destiny? I don’t know, no one alive now does.
Frankly, I’m thankful I won’t be here to see it all as I think we’ll see the “true colors” of all the nations in the world at that time. Unfortunately, I think it will lead to more wars over the last of the fossil fuels and natural resources that the earth has and those wars won’t be anything like the ones we are currently engaged in. The sad thing is we won’t pay the price, our grandchildren and great grandchildren will. What a legacy we are leaving them.
