another 4th in the sand box
Posted On 07/04/2008 01:11:07 by kd5drx

Well here it is my 5th 4th of July in the sand box. It don't seem like it has been that long but i guess it has 5 years almost and i'm still here on the front lines of freedom as they say. Well i have seen alot of good young men and women come and go from here and some come back again and again. It gets to be like home after awhile and you start thinking of it that way and thats when you wake up and realize ***** i am a sick puppy to think of this place as home. But you work with and live with folks long enough and they become family and friends are more important here then any where i have ever been. You look around and you take things for granted like the bottled water we drink and the sceenery always the same brown and dusty and a little green here and there. Lound booms off in the distance and you can tell how far away and what they were by the sound and the concusion. Last night i was standing out in front of my quarters and watched a mortar motor burn out on it's way to some where and waited for the explosion to see how far it was away never heard the explosion so another dud hit some where and no telling where it was, other than outside my area. Well the 4th is a celebration of our freedom as a country and you look around you and think of all the things you have that are taken for granted by every ameican and you forget some one died so you can do that alot of brothers sisters sons and daughters grand sons and grand daughters fathers mothers and grand fathers all at some point in time died some where in this world so we as americans can celebrate something we take for granted every day. You don't think about that till you get over here and see all the nasty things people do to each other in the name of religion so they can ride heard over those less strong and those less willing to fight and die for what they want and what they believe, they just put up with the mis treatment as part of there daily ruoutine becuase it has been that way for 10,000 years and they don't know any better. So on this day of celbration of freedom look around and thank your lucky stars that you had the great fortune of being a free american and if you see some one in uniform or some one who served in the service now is the time to thank them  for there sacrafice and there service with out them there would be no 4th of july to celebrate. Keep safe

Thank you for your insight, commentary and service. Be safe and please know that though there are those of us that will never know who you are or what you have gone through, they certainly do appreciate the service of you and your brothers.

Thank you again.
