It has been so long since I have been on here to write a blog, it is almost like a new learning experience.....lopl. I guess that I will get over it though
The change from O/O to company driver has been very interesting to say the least. I did not know if I was going to be able to adjust to the changes or not. i am happy to report that I am very happy in my new job and I have no regrets about making the change. It is possibly one of the best things I have ever done for myself and my family.
I no longer have to worry about where the next loads are going to be coming from and to whether they are going to pay like they should or not.. What a relief not to have to deal with that mess anymore. Now I can just relax and go where my dispatcher wants to send me. I get paid whether I am loaded or empty so it does not make a difference whether I am loaded or not. A few weeks ago, I had to deadhead home from Texas and it did not bother me a bit.
The company I work for has a very special niche uin the trucking industry and it is oft times more expediate to run back into the Northwest empty that it is too take the time to find and haul a "back haul". Easier that way for me too
Our prime freight is utility poles up to 110 ft. in length. Most all of them are processed in the Northwest and are delivered all over the country. Our business is not bothered by the economy much at all and that is a plus.
It is a shame to say it, but bad weather, floods and hurricanes, are a plus to our business. We often haul poles on "Emergency" status in that we dont have to follow any rules except just to get the freight where it needs to go in the shortest amount of time we can. That really makes life interesting.. Not a bad deal at all.
Mayber now I will be able to meet with some of the friends I have made here on trucker spacews as I am not now confined just to the Northwest. I am looking forward to that.
Hope you all are having a great weekend. Take care and keep it safe..
Bill
