As some of you know sadly we had to have Dude cat put to sleep three days before Christmas of 2007. That left his Mom Snobby cat. Since I'm allergic to cats they've been kept outside. For weeks Snobby looked for Dude everywhere, especially in the house. They were pretty much inseparable and it was heartbreaking to see her look for him. Since Snobby is getting older Russ and I had talked about getting another cat to help Snobby keep the critters under control. We live IN the woods so we have plenty of vermin to keep her busy hunting. I'd decided that I didn't want any more cats or dogs simply because it's impossible to replace the ones we have now. Olive our Great Dane is a perfect dog. She's has more personality and intelligence than any I've had before, bar none, and Snobby is well Snobby. Her name tells it all. A couple weeks ago we went to see some friends of ours, James and Vicky.
Well I couldn't help but noticing that Vicky's cat had a new litter of kittens. Well you know kittens are irresistible to play with no matter what age you're at. So I was playing with some of them and one caught my eye, it looked just like Dude cat when he was a baby. Well I picked him up and showed him to Russ and he thought the same thing. He was a duplicate of Dude Cat. I mentioned that to Vicky and she tried to get me to take him home. I refused simply because I didn't want any more responsibilities and well it bothered me because he looked and acted so much like Dude. We talked on the way home and I was surprised to hear him say that he wouldn't mind having a kitten. Then Vicky calls my cell phone and tells me I forgot something at her house, she said "You forgot your kitten". I start laughing and we hang up. Talk about determined, that's Vicky. Well we went back up there last Friday afternoon and brought the kitten home. He doesn't have a name yet but he is so funny.
I was a little worried about how Olive was going to react but she's enthralled with the kitten and his zooming around the house. She hasn't figured out what he is yet. He's attacked her tail which was funny because he was bowled over when she wagged it. He might weigh 1 or 2 lbs and she weighs 127 so you can see they are too funny to watch. He's not afraid of her and tries to climb up so he can be nose to nose with her. This is one time I wish I had a video recorder because I can see there are going to be some really funny things going on here that words won't describe.
The only problem so far is Snobby. She is NOT happy about the kitten AT ALL. She hisses at him and won't let him near her. She even hissed at me because I had his scent on my hands! I hope that changes and soon otherwise we have a house cat which doesn't bode well for me or the kitten. I've never had this problem before because most adult animal won't bother baby ones but I think if Snobby and the kitten were left alone we'd be minus a kitten.
Have a safe and great week.
