While I agree that there needs to be some sort of roadside testing, I don't agree that law enforcement are qualified to run any kind of testing including drug test "on the spot." I don't drink and never have done drugs, but I have a problem with law enforcement running any kind of test on anyone that can jeopardize their license and ability to earn a living. There are too many instances of drivers and law enforcement having personality conflicts and things getting out of hand. I know that most law enforcement are great people just as are most of the drivers there are some bad apples in every profession and those are the ones that worry me.

I think the issue with drunk Drivers is the lack of stricter enforcement and punishment of the ones that are caught. I don't think that they should ever be allowed to drive again. If the plea bargaining were stopped cold.
If everyone that was caught and convicted of DUI were never allowed to drive again the others would learn quickly that it's not worth the risk. There could be a national data base of those that have had their licenses revoked that all state would be required to enter their convictions so that people cannot cross lines to get re-licensed in other states. Yes I know that there would have to be other information to make this fool proof but it could be done.
There are too many people and families ruined because of DUI and I know that different organizations are working to stop it but until the state law makers, courts and legal systems take this as seriously as it should be then the murders of innocent people will continue.

To clarify just a bit on the 4 hour "rule". If you've had one beer, half a beer for that matter, any consumption of alcohol you must wait 4 hours before you can drive again. If you've been slamming drink after drink and your BAC is over .04, regardless of how many hours it's been since the last you can't drive.

Some people read the 4 hour after last drink law as meaning we can get drunk and stupid then climb behind the wheel after "sobering up" 4 hours. It isn't the case. The BAC has to be below the .04 legal limit before we can, which after a bout of drinking heavily won't happen in that period of time.

As for drugs, I truly wish they'd come up with some kind of on-the-spot breathalizer of sort to test for them. It seems it takes an accident before the meth'd out drivers can be tagged.
