You can only be testing for alcohol when you are starting to, during or ending a safety type of work, such as driving, running equipment or any work situation. You cannot be called in from home to take an alcohol test. However, you can be called in at any time during your off time for a drug test. Drugs are against the law. Alcohol is not. However, you all know you cannot drink and drive. How long before you can drive after having a drink. Do any of your know that?

Good posts.I believe it's 8 hr's from "bottle to throttle".But never understood the "hangerover" aspect, isn't it still in your system? As put by DOT friend one time,"would you want your doctor operating on you with a .02 level".I know FAA standards are more stringent, but good standard for the road also.let me know.

Actually it is only 4 hours. Not nearly long enough. I know i've had some nights where there was no way I would have been able to drive after only 4 hours since last drink. The liver can only process one drink an hour. Do the math and 4 is not enough.
Unfortunately there are those who disregard these rules, and for those that are caught and found guilty of a dui, should not be allowed to hold a cdl ever again.
Gov't wants to protect the people, lets start right here. I believe in zero tolerance for those that choose to make a poor decision and risk the lives of innocent people.
Lets hope they are caught before they get behind the wheel, including their personal vehicles. There's enough already.

Most insurance companies will not even allow you on their insurance if there is any records of a DUI. On that they go back further than the 3 standard years. Here in Alabama the DUI stays on I believe for five years. In some states a DUI never goes away. I think that 4 hours is too short also. I believe it should be raised to 8 hours. You know, if my brain is working properly, that when you have an accident you have 8 hours for a breath test.

Not sure what the rules are regarding how long til u can drive. Personally, I allow a 24 hour period, if BS happens out there on the road I don't want anyone to be able to say i was at fault for drinkin. I am usually home Fridays, thats drink night, if Iwant to drink... Saturday, perhaps a casual drink, and nothing on Sundays as I usually hit the road again Sunday evening or Monday morning.

Drugs are just stupid....nuff said we have a CDN drug test with each new company application, as well as have to pass the US DOT drug test to be US qualified, here we can be called to do a random test every 6 months, but not from home, usually at the beginning or end of the work week, sometimes during the middle o fthe week.

Those who drink it yur choice want harp at you for doing so... But 4 hours is no where near long enough to get behind the wheel of any vehicle, here in chattooga county ga... if your arrested for Dui they let you gout after 4 hours supposed to be sober huh.. guess again I have read several times in our local paper The Summerville News.. where they have let out folks for dui after there 4 hours were up only to rearrested by another cop for you guessed it Another Dui... so that otta show you that 4 hours aint near enough time for the alcohol to get out of your system so you will be..... SOB ER.... Plain and simple.... IF YOU DRINK DO NOT DRIVE AT ALL

To clarify just a bit on the 4 hour "rule". If you've had one beer, half a beer for that matter, any consumption of alcohol you must wait 4 hours before you can drive again. If you've been slamming drink after drink and your BAC is over .04, regardless of how many hours it's been since the last you can't drive.
Some people read the 4 hour after last drink law as meaning we can get drunk and stupid then climb behind the wheel after "sobering up" 4 hours. It isn't the case. The BAC has to be below the .04 legal limit before we can, which after a bout of drinking heavily won't happen in that period of time.
As for drugs, I truly wish they'd come up with some kind of on-the-spot breathalizer of sort to test for them. It seems it takes an accident before the meth'd out drivers can be tagged.

i strongly agree w/ the tester forthe drugs. if we can put a billion dollar piece of machinery in to space, why cant some kind of analizer be avalable to help save our roads?
